A Message From Our Program Founder

"I choose to be a part of the opportunity to help families stay connected with their loved ones who are incarcerated. I was encouraged from my own personal experiences and was given the perspective from the inside to the outside. I learned the importance of having the personal connection compared to a letter or overpriced phone call. It’s not only beneficial to the family members visiting, but the family member incarcerated as well. Several of my family members, who were all incarcerated at Maryland Department Correctional facilities; expressed to me via phone, "How can I do the right thing or begin to learn to do the right thing, when I don’t have people from the outside to come here and check on me or show me love. It hurts, I know I did wrong, but I want better. I just need people to show me better. Prison is all I know because that is all I am around." That revealed to me that we needed an external community source to bridge the gap of keeping those incarcerated connected to the outside world which can reduce the recidivism rate by helping families to problem solve, develop solutions and create a plan for when their loved ones will be released back to the community. Most inmates believe that their loved ones choose not to visit and then over the course of time, feel abandoned. However, that is not always the case. Prisons are cities away from urban and residential communities; located in rural areas which requires reliable transportation. Making the choice to partner with Eastern Shore Transportation LLC. to create a service that will give hope, was the best decision. Now those who are innocent can receive support while fighting for their justice and those individuals' taking accountability with goals to return back to society, they will have maintained positive human connections that will help them to excel in their transition back into the community.
